Scrap-Aholics.com Announces Store Closing & Discounts
Dear Scrap-Aholics.com Customer:
As a valued Scrap-Aholics customer, we want to notify you Scrap-Aholics will close on January 31, 2009 after 10 years of business. We understand the importance of keeping you informed and wanted to share the news directly with you. Scrap-Aholics is dedicated to providing our customers with the best products at the best prices and displaying exceptional customer service. Given the current market conditions, the decline in consumer confidence and the financial crisis our economy is facing, we felt it best to close now. We spent considerable time analyzing the best strategy for the close and notifying our valued customers.
What can you expect between now and the stores closing?Scrap-Aholics will continue to process orders and ship any current, future and previously backordered or presale items. As of December 1st 2008 the website will reflect full retail pricing. We are updating all inventory counts to reflect exact in stock numbers to help alleviate any ordering frustration. Please keep in mind, however, we do sell through other avenues and we will try to keep the stock levels current at all times. The Special Offers Tab, at the top page of the website, will make you aware of the discounts being offered as we sell the remaining inventory. You will need this coupon code at checkout to receive a discount on the merchandise.
As we draw closer to the closing date, the discounts will increase. Currently we are offering a 40% discount off all merchandise. Please note many products are not showing on the site as they have not yet been counted in the final inventory. Quantites are limited and once the stock is gone it has sold out and will not be replenished. Each day hundreds to thousands of items will be added back to the site. For best selection, please consider visiting often. Items will be shipped on a first come, first served basis. All sales are final and no additional discounts will be provided.
It is with very sad hearts we bid farewell to you. We hope to find a buyer for the site and have spoken with some interested parties.
We sincerely thank each and every one of you for your loyalty, patronage and support over the past ten years. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
Wishing you the very best for this holiday season and the years to come.

Handmade Greeting Cards
With the upcoming World Card Making Day on October 4th, I thought I would include the article I wrote on Greeting Cards many years ago.
Why a handmade greeting card?
Greeting cards have been proven to touch people in more ways than any other form of communication. A greeting card communicates a sense of importance and value. For this reason, a handcrafted greeting card remains a leap ahead of the mass produced selections. The recipient of a handcrafted card knows without a doubt the giver had the recipient in mind and specifically chose it for them. This special feeling communicates you have gone the extra mile by selecting a special greeting card which will be cherished, tucked away in a memory box and remembered always. Each card acts as its own personal gift. Finding the perfect card is difficult, because every occasion and every person is unique. If you're looking for a special one-of-a-kind handmade card that will be treasured long after the event, you've come to the right place. Create a lasting impression and make someone feel extremely special with a beautiful handcrafted greeting card from Scrap-Aholics.com. What a wonderful way to show someone how much you care!
HOW DID GREETING CARDS ORIGINATE?
Sending greeting cards to friends and family is a tradition that goes back about hundreds of years. During the 15th century, Europeans used wood engravings as greetings sent to loved ones. The oldest known greeting card in existence is a Valentine made in the 1400's and is in the British Museum. Valentine greetings were popular as far back as the Middle Ages, when lovers said or sang their Valentines. Written Valentines began to appear after 1400. Paper Valentines were exchanged in Europe where they were given in place of Valentine gifts. Handmade paper Valentines were especially popular in England. New Year's cards can be dated back to this period as well, but the New Year greeting didn't gain popularity until the late 1700's. The Valentine and Christmas card were the most popular cards, with Valentine's offering us the most "mechanical", "pop-up" and filigree cards, followed by Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Halloween and Thanksgiving. Cards gained their highest popularity in the late 1800's and early 1900's offering us cards with some of the most unusual art. The Victorian age give us the most prolific cards. Greeting cards were sent by the elite and wealthy in the early to mid 1800's. Most of the early greeting cards were hand delivered and many were quite expensive, but they soon gained mass popularity with the introduction of the world's first postage stamp issued in 1840 and a few ambitious printer's and manufacturer's perfecting printing methods, hiring artists and designed both elaborate expensive cards as well as simple affordable ones by the 1850's. Greeting cards as we know them today became popular in the 19th century largely due to the availability of printers and cheap delivery. Greeting cards remain very popular today for the same reasons as in the 19th century as a wonderful way to bring friends and family closer together and strengthen relationships.
WHAT ARE HANDMADE GREETING CARDS?
We believe handmade greeting cards are a work of art. We do not think of our cards, invitations and stationary as run of the mill. When you make the choice to send someone a greeting card, you are providing him or her with a piece of whom you are. This emotional essence you portray to them communicates who you are and how you feel about the recipient. What a better way to show them than with a custom handcrafted work of art. Our distinctive selections promote a sense of beauty and elegance unparalleled by other card companies. We strive to make every gifting occasion and unique and special one for you and the recipient. Let us show you what we can do for you.
A handmade greeting card is not a mass produced item. No machines are ever used in the process of creating each card. Even while we consistently make a similar design because customers continue to ask for the same card, the card is still unique each time due to the manual cutting, positioning, writing and other details, which go into each cards preparation. These are very time intensive greetings and priced competitively. The mass produced and often impersonal greeting cards average four dollars and up depending on the complexity of the card. These cards can be found everywhere from convenience stores to pharmacies. Our cards are priced at $3.99 and can include a complete personalized message inside. Notify us at checkout if you would like a personalized greeting added to your card. We have many customers who make trips across town to pick up a special greeting card.
Make your chosen handmade card truly unique by adding your own personal message and have the card mailed directly from Scrap-Aholics.com all without leaving your home or office. Perfect for those last minute rushes!
Our custom creations are available for any genre: Birthdays, Anniversaries, Weddings, New Home, New Baby, Congratulations, Get Well, Sympathy, Thank you, Love, Encouragement, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year’s, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Rosh Hashanah, Grandparents Day and more. We even offer custom greeting cards with you and your lifestyle in mind. Specialty birth announcements, holiday greetings and photo cards are also available.
All our handcrafted cards are three-dimensional. This dimensional flair adds weight and value to the card. Each card is made on a high quality card stock, which makes it thicker than a traditional manufactured card. However, as has been quality tested over and over again, these cards fit perfectly in the accompanying envelope and arrive in perfect condition ensuring your recipient, whether domestic or international, have the absolute joy or receiving such a quality and thoughtful selection.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY ORDER?
Most orders ship same day. However, larger orders or special orders require extra time due to the nature of handcrafted items. We will communicate any delays to you and provide you with an exact estimate of when your order would ship.
